Using Social Media as an Outreach Tool

Improving Reach for Environmental Programs

I created a pollinator-focused blog as part of my doctoral work (in 2011-2012) and explored the numbers, diversity, and engagement of visitors from all over the world. The overwhelming conclusion was that social media can be a cost-efficient and effective method of spreading environmental awareness.

This research is no longer suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals because of the amount of time that’s passed since its completion and the speed at which technology changes. I was unable to submit the work for publication soon after it was completed and most nonprofits and outreach projects now understand the importance of using social media to reach their audience. Hooray!

I’m offering a condensed version of the study as a PDF download: A Case Study in Maximizing the Use of Social Media for Outreach Programs. Please use the citation provided and link to this page if you choose to use this work.
