I created this lesson on diversity awareness using Adobe Captivate. The target learners are online college-level faculty, and the lesson has two goals:
- Introduce online faculty to some types of diversity that might be present among their students
- Give online faculty strategies for creating a welcoming and safe environment for students of all diversity categories
This lesson was developed using Adobe Captivate, but I now use Articulate exclusively.
I chose 6 characters to represent the types of diversity I wanted to focus on: disability status, culture/race/ethnicity, gender identity, socioeconomic status, technological savvy, and maturity. Each character introduces themselves to the learner with a short explanation of their situation.
There are several knowledge check questions in the lesson to help learners keep up and stay engaged. Click on the video below to watch the entire lesson from a learner’s perspective.
