Feline Training & Behavior, TNR

I earned my Advanced Feline Training & Behavior Specialist certificate through the Animal Behavior Institute in 2016.

I thought I knew cats really well before my certification, but was astounded by their subtle communication and environmental needs. Now, I offer advice to anyone who’ll listen, in the spirit of keeping cats in homes and improving their lives and those of their people.

I’ve also been an avid TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) volunteer since 2009. TNR is a strategy for reducing feral cat populations that involves no-harm trapping, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, and “ear-tip” for visual identification. Feral cats are afraid of people and don’t make good housepets, so they’re returned to their territories. Adoptable cats and kittens are found homes.

The presence of feral and stray cats is the direct result of human irresponsibility, and TNR is proven to be an effective and humane strategy for population control.
